FAO & WUR organized workshop on harmful chemicals management

Special Reporter: The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations-Bangladesh in collaboration with Wageningen University & Research (WUR) organized a five-day capacity building training workshop on “Harmful Chemicals Management in Bangladesh” at Wageningen University and Research (WUR), the Netherlands, from 27–31 October 2025.

Organized under the Pesticide Risk Reduction in Bangladesh Project, funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), and implemented by FAO Bangladesh, the training aimed to enhance the knowledge and capacity of government and FAO Bangladesh officials on sustainable and safe management of harmful chemicals, focusing on lifecycle management, policy mapping, registration procedures, and awareness creation.

Fifteen participants, including representatives from DoE, MoEFCC, Planning Commission, DoF and MoFL, DAE and MoA and FAO Bangladesh, took part in the workshop. Officials gained a deeper understanding of international (EU) best practices in pesticide and chemical management.. Inter-agency collaboration between DoE, DAE, and DoF was reinforced to ensure coherent national responses. Priority areas for policy reform and institutional capacity building were identified.
