Special Reporter: The IPR Cell at Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya (BCKV) underscored its leadership in agricultural property rights on March 18, 2026, through two successful back-to-back initiatives. The university organized a specialized workshop titled ‘Innovation to IPR in Agriculture 2026’, which served as a Faculty Development Programme for academics and researchers.

Under the guidance of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, the event featured key lectures from national and state-level IP authorities, including representatives from the IP Office, Kolkata, and the WB Biodiversity Board. The workshop successfully sensitized Ph.D. students, KVK representatives, and Farmers’ Organizations on the strategic importance of IPR in the evolving agricultural landscape.
In tandem with the academic sessions, BCKV demonstrated the practical application of these rights by participating in the ‘Awareness-cum-Exhibition Programme on PPV&FRA’ at ICAR-NDRI Nadia KVK. The IPR Cell’s stall showcased a vast array of the university’s registered germplasm, GI certificates, and educational leaflets, effectively bridging the gap between scientific research and field-level implementation. The participation of various awardee farmers highlighted the collaborative spirit of the university’s outreach.

The day concluded on a celebratory note as the IPR Cell, BCKV was awarded the 1st Prize for its exhibition, reflecting the university’s dedication to protecting the intellectual and biological assets of the region’s farming community.
